Mission and History of CMN

The Chamber Music Network of Greater Cincinnati is a collaboration of Greater Cincinnati chamber music presenters, performers, and supporters united to increase awareness of and appreciation for chamber music in our community.

CMN was initiated in February 2005 by the Linton Series’ then-artistic director Richard Waller, and then-president of Chamber Music Cincinnati JoAnne Warren who convened a series of meetings of the region’s many and varied music series presenters and performers to discuss ways to collaborate and cooperate.

By the summer of 2006, the group had formalized its membership application process, instituted membership dues, and elected leadership. Since then CMN has incorporated in the State of Ohio, attained 501(c)(3) status, and embarked on several projects to support its mission.

Current institutional members are on our Members page.

Chamber music has traditionally been seen as classical music written for small ensembles, one musician to a part, usually performed without a conductor. However, modern sensibilities have expanded that definition to include a wide variety of instrumental and vocal combinations, musical styles, and contextual settings, including ancient music, jazz, world, and other acoustic ensembles.

Ideally, chamber music is performed in a small venue with little separation between the musicians and audience, allowing for an intimate experience and direct communication among all participants.

ChamberPalooza!

Every year since 2006, except for during the Covid pandemic in 2020-2021, Chamber Music Network has sponsored ChamberPalooza! - a day of free chamber music performed by area musicians at the Cincinnati Art Museum.

This year, in addition to a variety of local performers, we will present a World Premiere piano quartet by Austin Jaquith ! There will also be an Instrument Petting Zoo in which kids and adults can try a variety of musical instruments, presented by Antonio Violins and volunteers of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. All free and open to the public!
